Day 1: A Long Day of Travel and Sightseeing!

Hola Amigos!

After leaving Schenectady High School at 9:30pm and St. Rose around 10:30pm, we traveled all through the night and WE HAVE MADE IT TO SAN JOSE, COSTA RICA!!!

JFK Airport from the coach

We began the evening with our coach driver Ron, who drove us down to JFK. Although we were all very excited, it was hard to not catch some sleep for the long night and day ahead.

The customs line....ALMOST THERE!

When we checked in at the airport, we were lucky enough to come at a time when it looked like a ghost town! So, we were able to move through security swiftly with no stress! After boarding the flight, we had a 5 hour flight that most of us managed to sleep through. And before we knew it.....
WE MADE IT TO OUR DESTINATION!

Our final destination was the Hotel Vesuvio, located right in the "heart" of San Jose, Costa Rica. The folks at the hotel were so happy to see us. For those of us who have traveled to Costa Rica before, it was nice to see some familiar faces and to get settled into what will be our home away from home for the week to come.

After getting settled into the hotel, we all went to grab some food and drinkto fuel us for the rest of our day sightseeing in San Jose. "Pictures say a thousand words," so we will let the pictures speak for themselves :-) For the SHS crew, we decided to go on a bus tour of San Jose. We were able to see a variety of historically significant places like: the house of Dr. Rafael Angel Calderon Guardia (the first president of Costa Rica), the Mexican and Russian embassies, the Judicial buildings of Costa Rica, the Metropolitan Cathedral of San Jose, the Teatro Nacional, the Museos: Baco Central De Costa Rica, among other amazing establishments.

Enjoy the pictures below of our Day 1 experience!

After our long day, the hotel's restaurant called "El Vesuvio" prepared some outstanding food for our first dinner in Costa Rica. We already know that the food alone in Costa Rica will be remembered for a lifetime.

Tomorrow is our first big day of performing for the people of Costa Rica. Check back tomorrow for news about our performances and other exciting events!!! Pura Vida!

Hasta Luego!
